The Flavors of Brazil Take Center Stage aboard Crystal Serenity
Mix cachaça, sugar, lime or lemon juice and crushed ice and you have a distinct blend of flavors that conjure images of Ipanema and Copacabana. Following several weeks of exploring the cuisines of the world, “Crystal Cruises Presents: A Culinary Journey Hosted by Jon Ashton” returns to the epicenter of the Crystal culinary experience: Crystal Serenity. The stars of Episode 10 of the mouthwatering video series are the Caipirinha, the national cocktail of Brazil and Churrascaria, the ship’s Brazilian grill restaurant specializing in traditional tapas, ceviche, salads and grilled meats presented tableside by Crystal “gauchos” on sword-like skewers.
Of course, Crystal’s mixologists have a host of creative ways to reinvent this classic South American drink, and Chef Jon Ashton and Ross Martin, Corporate Beverage Manager of Crystal Cruises, are on hand to experience them all as bartenders around the ship design their own take on this popular beverage. Together, they decide which new iteration of the refreshing cocktail will be featured on Churrascaria’s menu. All are designed to complement the restaurant’s sizzling specialties with fresh grapes, berries, basil, pineapple, orange and cinnamon.
While the selected drink is served in Churrascaria, the process takes Jon to several of Crystal Serenity’schic bars and lounges, including the Cove Bar, Trident Bar, Avenue Saloon, Pulse and Palm Court, offering a tour of some of the best spots on board, day into night. Cheers!
